I was working with a producer a few years ago, when I burst in the studio screaming with excitement about some big show. He looked right at me and said ‘Pi, don’t get too high… but also, don’t get too low’.
Then, while writing with fellow artist Ted Russell Kamp I told him that story. We laughed so hard, we decided that the song should be about the best gig we ever had, versus the worst! We love how it came out!
lyrics
Too High or Too Low
CHORUS:
I Don’t get too high or too low
Winning and losing streaks come and go
Take a breath and slow my roll
I don’t get too high or too low
V1
Me and my guitar got an hour to go
Just 10 more songs and a long drive home
There’s a handful of folks and they’re watching the game
The blue light can’t hide they feel sorry for me
V2
He said ‘hey can you sing like that girl on TV
She remind me of you, she’s the real thing’
When an ocean of low tries to bring me down
I take a deep breath and get lost in the sound
Just take a deep breath and get lost
CHORUS
V3
Me and my guitar,n the curtain closed
I feel the hush of a crowd oh I’m Ready to go
When the lights go up. My voice fills the room
There’s nothing else, just me and the tune
V4
You know the notes that I hit, oh the stories are on
I feel a wave of applause at the end of the song
At first they were shy, but now they get loose.
We’ll share a few laughs, three chords and the truth
We’ll share a few laughs, and the truth
CHORUS
I don’t get too high, (too high)
And I don’t get too low (too low)
I don’t get too high, (too high)
And I don’t get too low (too low)
I don’t get too high, (too high)
And I don’t get too low (too low)
I don’t get too high, (too high)
And I don’t get too low (too low)
